A highly specialised general hospital
Humanitas is a Scientific Institute of Admission and Care, recognised by the Ministry of Health and Lombardy’s Regional Government as a centre of excellence in terms of quality of its healthcare services and its ability to translate the results of research and innovation into everyday clinical practice. Humanitas is a teaching centre for the University of Milan’s degree in Medicine and Surgery, Nursing and Biotechnologies.
Research is the driving force of scientific dynamics and essential for extending the breadth and depth of knowledge. In terms of basic research, the work of the laboratories is focused on the inflammatory mechanisms underlying the formation and development of diseases ranging from cancer to inflammatory gastrointestinal and cardiovascular diseases.
International Quality Accreditation
Ever since it’s opening, Humanitas has adopted quality control systems based on the PDCA approach (Plan Do Check Act), which summarises the virtuous circle of quality and makes it possible to verify processes and outcomes in a continuous manner. Istituto Clinico Humanitas has always compared itself with the best European hospitals and has taken part in various benchmarking projects as a means of preparing itself to meet the challenge of the opening of the European Health System. It was this that led to the decision to certify from 2002 the hospital’s management model with the Joint Commission International.
The origins of Humanitas go back to the second half of the 1980s, when the meeting of Prof. Nicola Dioguardi and Pier Carlo Romagnoli (then President of Reale Mutua), with Gianfelice Rocca, President of Techint, and a group of other entrepreneurs gave rise to the idea of creating “a modern, well-organised and efficient hospital centered on the concept of doctor-patient relations”.
